hi i have a big rpoblem, and that is that i have no sound on ubunut...and it very hard to follow the tutorial ...can you help me

Hi,
I tried installing ubuntu 8.10 on my desktop but when it starts the formatting partitions it stays stuck at 5% and it doesnt go further. I can see in your video it only takes like 30 seconds or so.
What might be wrong. I did a guided full disk install. HDD = 500GB ATA
Didnt I wait long enough? Pls I'd really like to try ubuntu.

I don't know exactly what is wrong because I have never seen that problem. Do you have an irregular hard drive setup, such as raid maybe?
The other suggestion is to try ubuntu 8.04. It may better support your hardware. I have run into several computers that 8.10 won't work on but 8.04 will. After that I would suggest OpenSuse as an alternative to ubuntu.
