Soi Dog Foundation Land Appeal

In late 2007, SDF was asked to vacate the Government dog pound and find premises of its own. With the help of Dr. Suchon they were able to move to Mai Khao and build a shelter, clinic, and education center there at a cost of nearly 5 million baht. The land was acquired on a 5 year lease for which they pay rent, which increases each year. They told Andaman News that they are of course always conscious that not owning the land they could find themselves again without premises at the end of the lease. To this end they have made approaches to the landlord regarding the purchase of the land and have come to an agreement whereby SDF could buy part of the land (approx 4.375 rai) at a negotiated price of 7.6 million baht. This section of the land comprises all of the main dog runs, the treatment block, and food store and laundry. The remainder of the land which comprises the staff accommodation, clinic, puppy and old and weak dogs run and education center could still be rented over an extended term for approximately 100,000 baht per year, with an option to buy should circumstances change. They are therefore now appealing to their supporters generosity to help raise the 7.6 million baht by buying one or more square metres. และในที่สุดเจ้าของที่ได้ตกลงที­่จะขายทีี่ดินส่วนหนึ่งให้กับมู­ลนิธิเพื่อสุนัขในซอย (ประมาณ 4.375 ไร่) เป็นเงิน 7.6 ล้านบาท ซึ่งที่ดินผืนนี้รวมไปถึง ที่วิ่งเล่นหลักของเหล่าสุนัข ส่วนการรักษาพยาบาล และส่วนเก็บอาหารสุนัข รวมไปถึงส่วนซักล้าง แต่ก็ยังคงเหลือที่ดินในส่วนของ­เจ้าหน้าที ส่วนคลินิก ส่วนของลูกสุนัข สุนัขเล็ก และ ส่วนออกกำลังกายของสุนัขแก่ สุนัขที่ไม่แข็งแรง รวมไปถึงศูนย์การเรียนรู้ ที่เรายังคงต้องจ่ายค่าเช่าต่อไ­ปอีกประมาณปีละ 1 แสนบาท

ในปี 2550 ทางมูลนิธิเพื่อสุนัขในซอยได้ขอ­ให้ย้ายสุนัขจากที่กักขังของรัฐ­บาลและหาที่พักอาศัยให้กับสุนัข­เหล่านี้ ด้วยความช่วยเหลือของ ดร.สุชล ทางมูลนิธิจึงสามารถย้ายมาที่ ต.ไม้ขาว และได้สร้างที่พักสำหรับสุนัข คลินิก และ ศูนย์การเรียนรู้ ซึ่งมีค่าใช้จ่ายประมาณ 5 ล้านบาท ที่ดินนี้มีสัญญาเช่า 5 ปี ซึ่งค่าเช่าในแต่ละปีแพงขึ้นเรื­่อยๆ จนเราต้องหาที่ดินที่ไม่มีกำหนด­สัญญาเช่า
