@Joyfulkilla, no kidding. I had a pretty great American history prof and he made the point that the GOP has always been into big business. Even then, those jokers weren't all that great. Slavery became a major issue (albeit, many churches were preaching emancipation for YEARS previous) as a way to prevent French and British aide to the Confederacy.

Just look at the Radical Republicans who impeached Johnson. These guys have been slimes since time immemorial.

By the way, mr69stw, things have changed since Lincoln. He died about 150 years ago, and since then we've had the 1968 election, in which democrats and republicans pretty much switched places.

Then we had the Reagan era, when the Christian Right and Moral Majority ensured that republicans would be intolerant of other cultures, religions, races, and even their own people.
