Rick Baldwin's fatal accident 1986

In qualifying for the 1986 Miller 400 at the Michigan International Speedway. Rick Baldwin had a crash that resulted in critical head injuries that left him in a coma for 11 years before passing away in 1997.

RIP Rick Baldwin and Larry Nuber.

@Redslayer86 HANs device truly is a life saver... Even though they had that before Dale's wreck, it has saved a lot of lives since.. Sadly in racing (any type) there will always be that risk even with all of the state of the art safety devices... It doesn't matter if it's local track or pros.

Earnhardt's crash in 2001 didn't look that bad either. Hopefully with the new cars, we will never have to see this type of thing happen again.

Respond to this video... Possibly, details are vague. It could have been similar to Ernie Irvan's flat tire at Michigan... which there is also little info for. However, search for "Chad Coleman fatal crash" , which was very similar to Irvan's.

@IIXxBIGSxXII Doesnt matter. Did you see what a driver in 1986 was protected by? Open face helmet, and pretty much a passenger car seat belt.
