A painting....inspired by Harriet Powers (1837-1910), an ex-slave who did quilt work. I saw a quilt she had done in the 1890s. I was INSPIRED by her sunshines, sunbursts, heavenly bodies....This is MY ATTEMPT to paint what I saw. Read more about Harriet Powers on Wikipedia.

UPDATE: Summer 2009. Author Kyra E. Hicks released her latest book. The title is "THIS I ACCOMPLISH". It deals with the work of Harriet Powers. Kyra E. Hicks included a reference to me (Tommy30507) and this video (Page 169).

  • You should look up the quilters aof Gee's Bend, there is a book, I know this because I am FOLKARTKILLA

  • I really love the Gee's Bend quilts. Those ladies are awesome. Back in 2006 I saw the Gee's Bend Exhibition at The High Museum in Atlanta. Also, I have the DVD that accompanied the show. That was a GREAT DAY. I was COMPLETELY lost in the show...Quilters are WONDERFUL artists. BTW, I am VERY GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU. You're missed whenever you're not around....Don't hide in your cave for too long....:-)

  • 69 is really a magic number for these reasons: I'm the 69th visitor to this video and a few days ago I celebrated my 69th birthday. I'm sure there must be other reasons as well! LOVE this video. Thanks for opening my eyes to Harriet Powers. Your painting is beautiful and full of wonder. --Val
