@carolinlovecoach I think a part of society promotes this mind set. People think that you can't be happy, unless you have certain things. Sadly, love's on the top of the list. I know, I struggle w/ aspects of this myself. That's why it's refreshing, to hear u explain the consequences of thinking this way. U end up desperate, single, & going nowhere because of it, or u keep jumping from 1 hectic relationship to another. I know people, who wouldn't know what to do, if they were forced to be alone.

Thing is if we rely on & NEED someone else to make us happy, to trigger our happiness, we also must face the fact that we hand them the power to walk off into the sunset anytime they choose....... to leave, taking our happiness with them, whereas if we are happy within our own skin no one can take our joy away from us.....EVER !!!! Love yourself first is so true.

@shechshire sure, you don't absolutely need someone at all times to make you feel happy but, eventually you will want a partner so theirs no point in going out and saying you don't because if that were really true you wouldn't bother talking to any body. I know girls that say this all the time and go out and make out with whatever guy they want. Its human nature. We want sexual and emotional partnership with another.

now from a phycological point of view, most people drop into this mentality because they've been either hurt or just had a bit of bad luck and use this "you don't need anybody" mentality as a defense mechanism. the truth is that like, loving, or whatever you want to call it requires commitment and by commitment i mean an emotional one in that this person now has the potential to break it leaving you emotionally hurt. There's no use in denying it. All there is is to know who u r and be mature.
