I've always loved this wonderful song, all about moving on after some sort of loss and the rejuvenating effect of time, "earth smells sweeter after rain". It seemed appropriate to mark the passing away of my father this weekend with a short instrumental version.

  • Thank you for posting this wonderful music. Amazing how music can console during such difficult times. I lost one of my closest friends this summer and the music has helped make it bearable.

  • Very nice!

  • I don't know what it it is about this tune, but it just moves me so much. I would love to be able to play it on guitar. Is there anyone on You Tube who can teach it?

I have long been a Ralph McTell fan since first meeting him at Furzedown College in 1970 at a Folk Concert. He was training in Biology and performing with Whiz Jones, I was a mere student [training to teach Maths] and enjoying the music. Little did we realise then that he would go on and achieve such richly deserved fame!

  • What a beautiful tune.Well played,sir!

  • hi there, thanks for listening, version with words coming when i get the chance :-)

  • It's beautiful, well done Uncle Alan x
