Located on the far north side in West Ridge, Indian Boundary Park and Cultural Center is a jewel in the Chicago Park District. Any day of the week you'll find families relaxing, children playing on the award-winning fort complex or cooling off in the spray pool, and seniors enjoying the gardens and lagoon, an oasis of avian wildlife not found in other areas of the city.

The parks northern and eastern boundaries are graced by a magnificent ensemble of 1920s Gothic and Tudor Revival style courtyard apartment buildings, all which face the Park to take advantage of its lovely setting.

Indian Boundary is an urban oasis, where people enjoy the Parks different amenities and quiet beauty, whether its concerts, tennis, sunbathing, bird-watching, or just sitting on a park bench. Indian Boundary provides a safe and welcoming place to go for children and families without access to yards or other playgrounds, and is a wonderful and special place to meet old friends and make new ones.

The Park draws visitors year-round. The gardens mirror the changing seasons and the Landmark status. The Tudor-Revival Field house offers programs, classes, and concerts for children and adults throughout the year.

Indian Boundary Park and Cultural Centers visitors reflect Chicago. It is a place where the West Ridge community a melting pot of faiths, races, and backgrounds - can go to enjoy the outdoors, cultural events, and their neighbors, all of which contribute to its being a wonderful destination in the city of Chicago.

  • I'm not sure if the alpacas were transferred because Indian Boundary's zoo was no longer up to standard for keeping them or if it was just felt that they'd get better care at Lincoln Park Zoo. The Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council has plans to revitalize the zoo, although there probably won't be more alpacas. The old photos in this slideshow were from Chicago Park District archives.
