@nicodagger This is originally a Minstrel Song from the 1800's. Minstrelsy was entertainment where white actors performed in blackface as slaves and freemen. "Zip Coon" was a black freeman character who acted rich and stylish but was actually very foolish. The term "coon" did refer to people of black heritage, but back then it was ok to say that. The "Turkey in the Straw" words replaced "Zip Coon" later so we could still keep the song in our heritage without it being so offensive.

@uptowntreeefort in the U.S. if your skin is dark and you have the African heritage you are black (African American.) That man is both and there is no separating his black and white parts.
