Architects Design Group designed Greene County's Public Safety Center to withstand 250-MPH wind speeds in order to protect mission critical systems, including the Springfield-Greene County 9-1-1 Communications Center and the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management. In order to harden the facility for survivability, the design team used heavy steel, 8 to 16-inch solid concrete walls, a foundation that is secured to solid rock, and redundant water and power systems. In addition, the 10,000 square-foot Emergency Operations Center, which is used to collect and disseminate information and resources during a disaster, is located in the basement of the Center.
