Google doesn't index Facebook pages. I'm not sure why you're stressing the importance of Facebook, with regard to Google, but your information is not correct when it comes to Facebook and Google. MSN/Bing owns a large part of Facebook so Google is not going to send traffic to Facebook fan pages. Rand Fishkin, of SEOMoz spoke about this during a webinar that was given through PRWeb. It is widely known that Google does not index anything from Facebook.

I agree with what you say that social media
has now become a ranking factor. Maybe since it began I guess.. Social Media Marketing has really transformed into a big sector online, the latest trend and we may say the next world.

Thank you Michelle for giving me hope that all the energy I have spent on creating useful and factual fan pages has not gone to waste! The move towards internet sites that provide useful information that is unique and written by experts that know what they are talking about can only be a positive one. Well done Google!

Excellent video Michelle and a great insight into where social media and SEO are heading. It has taken a while for me to wake up to just how important these online tools have evolved for the purposes of promotion. I tend to stumble around with technology but as an independent artist the benefits of linking online content and improved ranking can only help raise the professional profile.

Fantastic video. I am hoping people will realize that social signals are becoming very important to search and in the near future they will be critical to search.

Say, Michelle, I wonder if, you'd work up some ideas about a situation in say, 0-12 in which there's enough sunspot activity to set back the high-tech nations such that, some nation, say, China took occasion to invade this continent—the person with a saw would be 1,000 yr. ahead of the guy with only an axe—any ideas on how could I market my dad's collection of mechanical watches, hand tools, etc.? tnx
@ChrisW1234567 WRONG! Google doesn't crawl Facebook *PROFILES* - because you have to be logged in to Facebook to see profiles. They do certainly look at what's happening on Facebook PAGES, as discussed on the Search Engine Land post I reference in this vid that YouTube isn't letting me link to here...
Rand agrees. You're confusing Profiles with Pages. Different animal.
