Channel 5 Test Signal Pre Launch

I remember seeing this, a bit grainy it was at 27 miles from Winter Hill. It was broadcast on reduced power here in the North West. On first tuning it in, I couldn't believe they chose UHF 48 for this one.
Used to get the horizontal blanking interval off HTV-wales on CH 49 floating sideways across the screen too.
Now I know of course, the UHF 625-line network was overloaded with five services!
Aahh happy days. All this fun now gone, thanks to digital TV!

Love the way they don't mention if you experience interference on your channel 5 signal!!

Excellent stuff. I always remember channel 5 trumpeting the fact that their programmes were "stripped and stranded". Also remember hot property and that thing about the estate agent - watched that with mom and dad. Even though we had cable anyway we thought channel 5 was exciting!

The run up to launch was exciting, decades in the making and the last ever terrestrial channel launch.
This is the later version of the test loop, the first half was added a few days prior to launch. The earlier one had a different voiceover and info slide, and regional phone numbers (327 south/328 north). They briefly showed a test pattern, the odd VT clock and an orange (5) logo that IIRC ended up being used as a backdrop to menus etc.

does anyone have the other(older?) version of this - different voiceover, I think. Might have been from certain transmitters, think it might have had the old logo as well
