An unusual terrapin hatchling, the last of its clutch, was found in an emerged nest on Lieutenant Island. Twelve of its siblings had already scrambled from the nest into safety, but this little premature hatchling stilll remained in its partially opened eggshell. Unfortunately, fly maggots had found this baby and were crawling inside the egg and beginning to consume its egg white and burrow into its umbilicus and yolk sac. Its eyes did not fully open until bathed in warm water later.
