Pop music can be very simple, yet so difficult to get it right. These guys did just that.

  • was he singing this live? I rarely see older songs performed live, but the vocals aren't directly on point with the actual recording (still excellent though) It still sounds almost too good to be live though and the guitars don't look like they're plugged in, haha

  • @heytheredenorah This is from "Hullabaloo". In that show it was quite common to use live vocals "over a playback instrumental background".

  • @heytheredenorah In those days, it was very common for singers, whether solo or groups, to lip synch the lyrics. One reason was because the audiences virtually demanded the same arrangement and sound of the hit recording. Another reason was because the sound qualities produced in television broadcasting was pretty inferior. You hear the quality here is very poor.

  • @Azishome The original color episode hasn't survived, so this is a b/w kinescope (with a more grainy picture) with inferior audio, too.

  • Re: Colour Copy - It wasn't a matter of "saving the tape" - there was no vidio tape recorded - as there was no video tape. TV shows were "live" - and the Kine was the only "copy" (if one would call it a copy). It was the black & white shot off of the monitor of the "feed".

  • @dateat3 Well, how come that three of the original color episodes still excist with perfect quality?

  • I wonder why this doesn't appear here in color. I know it was broadcast in color because I distinctly remember watching this episode of Hullaballoo only a day or two after we got our first color TV set, and I was so impressed by the matching bright blue velour pullovers worn by Frankie and the boys. Hey, those kind of things stick with you when you're a kid watching color TV for the first time!

  • @alwaysstrapped Someone at NBC decided in the 70s that the original color episodes were taking up to much space in the storage room and had them thrown away. Only 3 of the color episodes have survived. The b/w copies are also kinescopes, which means that quality is inferior.

  • where the f is the drummer! It's the second best part about the song aside from his vocals!!!!! >:(

  • @heytheredenorah Although I listened to it a couple of times and in the original studio recording after he sang "I let it get away" didn't at one point the bass singer sing "I'm payin' everyday" ? Sounds like Frankie sang it every time.

  • Frankie Valli's so cute in this ... love the song and love watching them perform. Also love the later cover done about ten years after this, by The Spinners.

  • @heytheredenorah Even live telecasts these days can have some vid & sound discrepancies. Watched our Carols in the Domain (Sydney) 17/12/2011, and they had some sync probs.

  • Dont think the fellows at Motown could be called 'chumps', just that great music can never die! This is awesome.

  • @jsbach15 Sorry, I was thinking Nick Massi, but wrote Bob's name instead!

  • @jsbach15 Not sure what you're talking about, that's Bob playing the keyboard. Post Nick Massi with Joe Long on the base but before Bob and Tommy left.

  • jsbach15 if you mean this clip Bob Gaudio is playing the piano, it was after 1965 because Joe Long has replaced Nick Massi. It was Nick that sang deep base.

  • Bob Gaudio, is not in the group; must be after 1971? Miss Bob's lower register on this song, but it's still terrific!

  • @dateat3 Yes, dateat3....

Care to enlighten us as to "how come that" three of the original episodes still "excist"? With perfect quality?

We've only been waiting seven months for your response. We expect that your response will be awesome, considering all the time you've been afforded to formulate it.

Tick tock, tick tock! Out with it now! How come that three of them still excist with perfect quality, DATEAT3! Give us a "Re:," and be sure to put a fancy and unnecessary "U" in color.
