Claudia Cardinale won her ticket to films after a beauty pageant. Her exotic beauty made her a rival to fellow Italians Gina Lollbrigida and ofcourse, Sophia Loren. She starred with the greatest including Sellers, Mastroanni, the Duke, Hayworth, Lancaster, Marvin, Hudson and Fonda. However, Cardinale refused to be under contract. Though this didnt give her the international success of Loren, it ensured that her films would be better quality. In many respects, Cardinale has been in more films considered the greatest than many of the more famous goddesses. The Italian masterpiece 8 ½ and the classic western, The Professionals.
Cardinales most famous and recognisable role is that of Jill McBain in what many people call the greatest movie of all time, Once Upon a Time in the West. This legendary western was directed by Sergio Leone, and Cardinale gained top billing next to legends Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson and Jason Robbards.
Never given the credit she deserved, Cardinale always gave solid performances. Remaining a bigger star in Europe and Britian rather than the US, she was also considered the most beautiful woman in the world.
The song Ive used is from the Once Upon a Time in the West soundtrack, called Jills America. It would have won the Oscar if the papers were filed in time.
