  • I'm pretty sure this user has fucked up speakers or something, the DOS version isn't this fucked up sound wise.

  • I can assure you it's not that. It's just a matter of not being able to enable the Adlib sound of this version.

  • The real story behind this is the company that was tapped to port this for Konami was a small programming house in Arizona. Well it went way over time and the guy who started the company eventually had to fire everyone. He spent two months straight finishing the port himself, refusing to leave the office and eventually his den after an eviction. After few days without being seen he was found dead, hung in the closet. Because there was no money left, they published what he left behind, this turd.

  • That comment is exactly 500 characters long and I'm very proud of it.

  • @geyote23134 Well, the video at /watch?v=gq9uchXRRPc (which has much better music, BTW) shows this PC port was a game made by USI, which was actually a CANADIAN company, not from Arizona. Furthermore, the programmer shown in the intro screen, Pete Gardner, is credited in the MobiGames website as having created a lot of games after Castlevania, dating as recently as 2007. So, fortunately for him, all of your story was just made up ;-)

  • @geyote23134 Where did you get this story? There's not any mention of this anywhere on the Internet

  • Well, this game actually looks like a faithful adaptation of the NES game. Just try to watch the video with no sound to avoid hearing the horrible beeps ;-)

  • @ITAMrPink No, you don't have to look for any "CASTLE ADL" file. It's just that you have to type ADL as an argument to CASTLE.EXE

So just type CASTLE ADL and it should work

  • @JPhands Well, most people in the early 90s didn't actually have a soundcard, so this is an accurate rendition of how were these games experienced back then ;-)

BTW, I didn't know until now that there was a Castlevania game for DOS. It's just a pity that the PC-Speaker sound is this horrible! There were games that made better use of the primitive PC-Speaker. In this game they tried to cram too much (music plus sound effects) for the crummy beeper to handle.

  • @geyote23134 If there was no money left they should have smashed a candlestick with a whip.

  • Was it too much to expect them to program a *Toosh* sound effect that doesn't take priority over the music?

  • no sabia ke habia salido para pc... creo ke ese castlevania salio para todo jaja

  • lol the sound hahah
