Mini reviews of every one of my chess books. The first of many installments. Reviewed from the perspective of a crappy club player.

  • because you don"t play a line in a book you give it a C?

  • @chess1941 You should look at the video where I explain my grading system. Books I'm not going to keep I give a C or lower. I explain everything in the video.

  • What is your ELO at the moment?

  • I'm patzer level, about 1500 in standard games at ICC. The reviews are for people who also aren't very good trying to improve. Some of the books I hate a GM might like, as they are over my head.

  • chessvideoguy:

I discuss it a little later, but the main reason is that I prefer not to give up a central pawn. I didn't play it well, probably because it requires some subtle and mature intuitions than I have. It seemed more often than not I ended up with a very cramped and uncomfortable position, so I switched to the QGD which I prefer.

  • your reviews got me started when i first purchased a bunch from amazon, your advice was greatly appreciated, thanks man

  • I like your review format, and agree with your opinion of "How to Beat 1.d4". Any reason for not playing QGA anymore?
