Composed by Charles Gounod Dec. 1, 1885.
The text for the anthem is credited to the Rev. B. Webb,
and the piece was written and first performed in 1866.
O sing to God your hymns of gladness
Ye loving hearts your tribute pay
Your Lord is born this happy day
Then pierce the sky with songs of gladness
Disperse the shades of gloom and sadness
The Lord is born this happy day
O sing to God your hymns of gladness
O sing to God your hymns of gladness
Ye loving hearts your tribute pay
Your Lord is born this happy day
Then pierce the sky with songs of gladness
Disperse the shades of gloom and sadness
Your Lord is born this happy day
O sing to God your hymns of gladness
O Word of God for us incarnate
O Word of God for us incarnate
By faith we hear thine angels sing
Thy blessed angels sing their hymns
Thine angels sing of praise to thee their King
We join with them in adoration
We join with them in adoration
We pour to thee our supplication
That Thou would grant us, Lord, salvation
how lucky we are to have this gift of angelic sound

To me, the Robert Mitchell Choir is superior to any boys choir I have heard. There was such innocence and beauty in their music. It's a shame that there are no recordings (of which I am aware) in existence today. They could at least release a recording of their film performances. This piece has always touched me very deeply.

This is my all time favorite Christmas carol but I've never heard it sung anywhere else! Do yourself a favor and listen. Gives me chills!
