Paaaaart Two of my Avatar review! I didn't hate this movie. I just didn't really like it a lot. I think James Cameron is a great filmmaker and I've liked a lot of his movies, but this one was just a little too simplistic plot wise. It worked with Titanic for some reason, but this one not so much? Good times though...

i have to say i completely agree with plinkett. I didn't care much for avatar, the hype confused me quite a bit to say the least.

...then that would be the fault of an audience who doesn't know right from wrong;how the natives look is irrelevant,no one has the right to come to their home/world and plunder them.In the context of the film Na'vi are in the right,And you and others(Stoklasa included)just want to find excuses to overlook that. That's sad and wrong,IMO.

Stoklasa's criticism of how Na'vi look are moot; The humans were not ugly so where is the unfairness.Additionally it's not a complaint that has a real effect on the structure of the film(like plot holes, lack of tension/threat or main character that doesn't change). Moreover, characters(especially in a Cameron film) are supposed to be designed to connect with the audience so there's no real complaint there.but even so,if the last part of your post is to be believed...

yeah but the problem is that we live in a time where just because some movie is better then an even worse movie it can get a pass, well not really, was it better then those films yes, and was it okay for what it was yes, but the problems with it do take a way from it, but everyone seems to give it a pass, I think what he said at the beginning is right, if the navi were not designed to specifically attract and connect with us no one would care as much or at all, and I believe that is the worst.

I think it was more that the audiences where blown away by the 3-D effects, and James started a trend over here making every movie nowadays using the 3-D gimmick.

...he pointed out those serious problems I've listed which he never mentions for Avatar.Mind you I don't say avatar is perfect,It has problems but none of the venom and hate from its detractors(Stoklasa included)is justified. For what it does do right it is certainly a better film than the haters give it credit for. It's not Citizen Kane. But it's not bad like Transformers ROTF.It's not Twelve Angry Men but it's not bad like Batman And Robin.SRSLY,It's at least better than that.

...those structural problems(or lack thereof)that more seriously effect its ability to tell a coherent story of the type it is trying to tell.None of that is in Stoklasa's review and,IMO,shows a failure due to bias.Stoklasa is angry because Avatar hits too close to home(you can hear that in the video). He wanted the humans to win,Cannot accept the Na'vi or their world in the context of the movie and he pretends it's the film's fault. When he reviewed Phantom Menace...

But his review should be about plot holes; that's the kind of issue that more seriously effect the film. It's issues like that that make up serious complaints with film.Really,I like Avatar and even I found many major plot holes in the story.Stoklasa is wrapped up in minor details that offend his world-view and can't look past that to judge the film on it's merits.I won't call The Godfather a bad film simply because I hate it's message/character portrayals. The film has to be judged on ...

No,but I'm not going to post the complete list of similarities/differences between Avatar and Star Wars(1977).I'll just say the two films are practically cut from the same cloth.Avatar hits closer to home and is a more down to earth version of Star Wars(1977).I say it's better made because despite his borrowing(which Lucas does too no less)Cameron is just better at telling a more coherent story than Lucas. The prequels show this;Lucas' continual tampering with the originals show this.
