CCM Brass Choir performs Shostakovich's symphonic poem "October," arranged/conducted by Joel Baroody.
Brass choir was gracious enough to make room in the program for my arrangement of this lesser-known piece by Shostakovich, written for the 50th anniversary of the October revolution. This symphonic poem is not seen frequently on programs across the world, and recordings of it are not nearly as popular as most of Shostakovich's other work. This exciting and underperformed piece translates particularly well to brass instruments. In retrospect, and after listening to this recording, there are some things I want to voice slightly differently---but it's close. I couldn't have asked for a better outlet for this experiment/project---they were quite understanding of and very patient with my very green (debut) conducting, and were very patient with (and helpful towards) my constantly updating the parts. I thank the tubas in particular for their patience...I hope everyone had fun with this piece---I know I certainly did!
Damn....and the Coast Guard got you, Joel!! Congrats and thanks for being such a patient teacher for this old dude.!! I absolutely love the trumpet. Thanks to you and Rory for showing me what excellence can be.
