Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956) "Main Siren"

Main siren from the 1956 version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". Does anybody know what make/model siren/horn this is? My mother and grandparents remember hearing this as a fire/emergency siren in the 1940's - 1960's in Bound Brook, NJ.

This was only part of the fire signal in Bound Brook. It was actually a 3 part signal that sounded on the roof of the old borough hall on Hamilton St, then echoed on the other side of town located at the Cyanamid (or Calco for the real oldtimers) plant and I believe the third was up around Lamonte Field though I could be wrong on that one. Yes, it woke you up in the middle of the night and yes it caused traffic problems because the whistles were coded to pull boxex and everyone knew this!

it was out dated and pagers replaced it. When they sounded it half the city would show up where the fire was creating a traffic jam.

The city of North adams MA use 3 of them to call in off duty firefighters when help was needed. They stopped using it in the early to mid 90's. It sounded exactly like this one.

It's a Gamewell Diaphone. A very loud Air Horn, still used quite a bit on Long Island New York, for Volunteer Fire Companies. You can find some videos on Youtube of them.
