I'm a big JFK person, but I also see this as a relatively early example of the "I don't know what we would have done if it weren't for Jack (or fill in the blank)" ad. Jay Rockefeller ran the same kind of "plain folks" commercial when he was running for re-election as West Virginia governor around 1980 or so. I always love this kind of politcal commercial, with the candidate trying to connect with "Joe Six-Pack."
