This piece was written by Bob Mintzer and recorded live by the Osland Saxophone Quartet: Miles Osland, soprano saxophone; Doug Drewek, alto saxophone; Lisa Osland, tenor saxophone; Larry Nelson, baritone saxophone; with the University of Kentucky Wind Ensemble conducted by John Cody Birdwell. This is the second movement of a four movement piece titled "Rhythm of the Americas".
I couldn't have said it better.

I completely agree. I am a graduate student in African Disapora Studies and this does not make me think Afro-Caribbean in the slightest. Even that percussion seems more jazzy than anything else. This is a poor attempt to bring Africans into the "rhythms" of the Americas.

I am Afro-Caribbean and a Composer and I don't find the music of this movement portraying "Afro-Caribbean" at all. The only Afro-Caribbean reference seems to be the little percussive rhythm cell which still doesn't really pull the movement together as Caribbean/Afro-Caribbean. Having just a typical Clave rhythm with some other percussive rhythms does not make Caribbean/Afro-Caribbean.
