We went here on January 20th of 2009 and saw over 1500 trumpeter swans. They stay largely because the water is open, since it is near the nuclear power plant and because of the generosity of a woman who lives on the river. She calls herself the "Swan Lady" and she calls the Mississippi river here Swanee River.
