Marty Feldman was a friend whom I miss very much. He was a comic genius and truly gentle soul. Not many Americans know that in his homeland, Marty was the British equivalent of Woody Allen... namely an accomplished writer and performer. Marty's seminal BBC series laid the foundation for "Monty Python" as many of its members worked on his writing staff.

Marty should never be forgotten and the full true nature of his incredible talent should forever stay on our radar. He was much more than "Aye-Gore."

I'm sharing some rarities in my possession that Marty gave me back in the seventies. Here's a famed sketch that has never been seen without canned (or live recorded) laughter in the background. It features Barbara Feldon has a damsel in distress and Marty as a brave knight trying to rescue her. These sketch was first shown in the states on the Dean Martin summer replacement series that first introduced Marty to America. It was also shown on "The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine."

Barbara's expression at the end will be familiar to anyone whose ever watched "Get Smart!"

Years later, I asked Barbara how she liked working with Marty. Her response was: "He was a dream."

  • Feldman is a genius. It's great to see this stuff that US audiences just have never been exposed to before. Four minutes of Marty is worth the entire run of King of Queens.

  • Nah, John Cleese is no 2,

    Then Rowan Atkinson.

  • @tlbruffy Yep, that's 99 - minus Max and his shoe phone. I'd never seen her paired with Marty before. :)

  • @FightAFight nah, graham chaplin is 1st :-)

    but thats just TASTE.

nevertheless, all pythons are funnier and more talented than atkinson...

  • ya, don't compare marty to woody allen. allen is a hack compared to marty. the most boring marty sketch leaves allen about as interesting as a misspelled dictionary.

  • @TheStupedCat I first discovered Marty Feldman's work about a year ago. He's my favorite British comedian. I have great respect for him as a performer and as a person.

P.S. Thank you, Hammerman8699, for sharing this sketch with all of us.

  • Ive been a fan of Marty Feldman for years thanks for sharing.

  • LOL -- that could even *be* Max the way the knight is trying to get to her! haha

    (and not exceeding)

  • Thank you for posting this nostalgia from the sixties. Its great to see it again after more than forty years. The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine was unique among popular television shows in California. I really enjoyed seeing it, even though I was only six years old at the time.

  • Thank you for uploading these videos.

Rest in Peace Marty! <3 Much love.

  • brilliant comedian!
