The grape isn't necessary. The foil would have arced the microwave energy by itself. Btw your lucky that didn't blow your face off.

what aluminum foil does (and other metal based materials) is to reflect the microwaves into several impredictable directions, small fire means the waves are being spread, big explosion means many waves were reflected into the same direction resulting in a gigantic amount of energy wich the Microwave's walls couldn't handle.. so Booom. you were lucky...

My cousin decided to put garlic bread with alfoil in the microwave (hes never used a microwave before)so then it exploded and i found peices of metal stuck into the wall of my kitchen. it exploded like a shrapnel grenade.THIS ISNT SAFE!
