it seems to always happen just before a Pulse. then the Sun can be seen to darken greatly before returning to normal.

I noticed this too and initially mistook it as a solar pole flip too.
i now rather believe that it is directly related to the Solar Pulsing taking place.
Just before a Pulse the energy is gathered/pulling in from the surrounding Sun space. That energy builds up like a wave and passes the satellite (imo) thereby throwing its more sensitive gyro stabilizers. Mind you I am not an expert but it is my theory.
