Well My camera lens sold for 1100 so I now have a really good all mode prepper's dream radio (FT-897D)... High powered capable of operating on internal batteries... This will give news reports long after the power and internet are gone

  • and finetune the carrier signal, and ur on. dont use it without filtering is all LOL. i have,m and it's not good on my computers, nor is it good on my other receiving equipment LOL. good luck with figuring out that rocket ship cockpit radio though and 73s

  • @HurricaneSondra I have replaced that radio with a FT-950 and a ft-8800 ... the FT-897 is now stored in a metal contaner for emergency backup usage

  • Happy B Day, but let me ask a simple question. What is the point of a HAM radio? You spend a lot of money, time, and effort on the stuff to contact someone 1/2 way around the world, and when you get a hold of them...............then what? What do you talk about with a total stranger? What's the point?

  • @1PossumJenkins well lets see.... if I can talk 1/2 way around the world I can see how big the disaster is and more importantly I can easally communicate within 100 mi to see if anything bad is heading my way... Please put a little thought into your questions

  • "negitive repeater shift" is the term you were looking for at the end of the vid dave . i have the FT840 and it has been a great rig over the years . spend $20 and get an antenna switch to have the ability to switch between 3-4 antennas;this is great to pulling signals that one antenna will miss . so get your vertical antenna up and then maybe make up 2 longwire ants in differant wavelenghts, trust me on this one

  • @crabtrap waiting on a pole already have a 102 ft multyband wire and omni uhf / vhf

  • Just thought I'd let you know that the 897D has alot of white noise and needs filters.

  • I get myself the best birthday and christmas presents every year!

  • compaired to the radio i got kid, that radio is the cockpit of a jet airplane LOL. and i can imagine it will be a long time before you'll ever figure that thing out, i have a police type radio ht that's made by yeasu vertex, and vertex standard is a good radio, it would be better if they'd just minus that damn menu programming now. my hf radio i mentioned before doesnt have the menus that these others have. just press the on key, dial down through the band, set the sideband selector, and

  • yeah your right, i got my toungue hanging out, I WANT one like that buc i could bearly afford the ft757GX i got now. and that one i got is ONLY HF lol. my god, expensive.

  • Nice radio and Happy Birthday.

Wish one day I can afford my first radio.

  • Please, wash your teeshirt ... and happy birthday :)
