Create a Windows® 7 Dial-Up Networking Connection
Welcome to the AT&T "How To" videos.
Today, we will be showing you how to create a dial-up networking connection in a Windows® 7 environment. We will be using an AT&T USBConnect Velocity device to connect to the internet.
Before we begin, ensure that you already have an AT&T LaptopConnect rate plan.
To begin, connect the device to the computer
Verify the modem has been installed correctly.
Access Device Manager by going to Start, Control Panel and click Device Manager
Ensure the drivers for your device do not have a yellow exclamation or red X icon next to them. If you see this, feel free to contact our online Business Support Team at www.att.com/biztech.
Return to Device Manager and create an Extra Initialization String
Click the "plus" sign next to modems
Right-click on the appropriate modem, the modem you are using, and select Properties
Click on the Advanced Tab
Enter the Extra Initialization String command. Please note: the majority of dial-up connection errors are due to a mistyped initialization string. Please type the command exactly as displayed on the screen.
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP", "isp.cingular" or "Broadband"
Click OK
Now, click Start
Select Control Panel
Select Network and Internet
Click Network and Sharing Center
Click Set Up a New Connection or Network
Select Connect to the Internet
Then click Next. If you are prompted to use an existing connection, select No, Create a New Connection and the select Next
Select Dial Up
Select the appropriate modem, again would be the modem you are using. Please note: if the error "Windows® could not detect a dial-up modem" is displayed, verify Windows® Dial-up services are enabled and running.
To do this, go to Start
Type "services.msc" and press Enter
Scroll to and double click Telephony
Verify "Startup type" is set to Manual and "Service Status" is set to Started
Then click OK
Return to the Setup a Dial-up Connection screen
Enter the following
Dial-up Phone Number: *99***1#
Username: (Leave Blank)
Password: (Leave Blank)
Connection Name: AT&T
Allow Other People to Use This Connection: Allows access to the connection by all user accounts. Check this option as desired.
Click Connect
Click Close
Open Internet Explorer and begin to browse
If further assistance is needed feel free to contact our online Business Support Team at www.att.com/biztech. If accessing the site for the first time you will need to enter your device model and click "Next". Then select "Chat Now" on the following page.
