An important point was raised in the comments of my last video and I need some feedback from you my subscribers.
If the video is too long here is the short version: was offered a free TT Hongli kit if I would review it. In my excitement at receiving free crap I agreed to do a video on it. Mentioned it in my previous video and the subscribers that have commented so far are not enthused at best and discussing unsubbing at worst.
I was looking at it as just a free kit that if it is crap I can blast, or if it is decent I could do just a normal review. What I had not considered is that it could also look like I am actively encouraging people to buy knock off products.
Not being a Gudam person, I had to look up TT Hongli, and as someone who doesn't have a problem with knockoffs provided people know what they're getting, I wouldn't object to you reviewing them, so long as you're honest. But that's just my approach to knockoffs.
Also, just as a side note, this is the first I've heard of a toy reviewer getting products to review from a company. Usually it's retailers.

Of course, both cost and quality are as subjective as moral values, and for this reason more KO reviews should be on YouTube; reviews that rely on good quality pictures and video, rather than subjective comments, because, at the moment, the only way one can decide if KO quality is up to their personal standards is to buy one, risking disappointment. Therefore, KO reviews are as valuable as any other. In the end the decision to buy a KO is up to the values and standards of each one of us.

There is a lot of focus on copyright and the ethical issues behind supporting bootlegs. However, whether we like it or not, TT continue to make and sell their KOs and some modellers buy them. Others question the morals of those who do, saying that no one should buy bootlegs on moral grounds. And although that is reason enough for them, a lot of people find that cost outweighs any ethical issues. To make this discussion personal to more modellers, we should focus on cost and product quality.

To be honest... I hate TT hongli.. I dislike bootlegs with a passion. If you do them.. Its up to you. I will keep watching the videos because you do a great job at them. I will just end up ignoring your TT hongli reviews because I do not care about them.

If you want to review it go ahead. We know its a KO and treat it as such. If its good quality fine say so. If its a piece of garbage, then also come out and say it. If people un-sub because you are giving your honest opinion about something that's their issue. Personally I'd like to see the kits reviewed.

PS - You should go to Bandai and let them know you received said offer and let them know your dilemma. Maybe their marketing department could send you a counter offer!

I'm here just to keep up with you buddy. That being said, I understand your dilemma. However, you are a reviewer. If this knock-off stuff is crap, review it as crap. If it's great stuff, let people know. Who cares if it's pirated. In the world of free trade, it is those that that produce the best product at a reasonable price that grow their base. Fanboys need to realize that reviews offer knowledge of a product and not support of a company's practices! Take the free stuff!

You know what, review the kit and fulfill your commitment. But don't get sucked into the MoAr free stuFf 4 goOd reeVusE, mentality. Too often it seems some reviewers spend most of the video plugging their sponsors instead of giving an honest review.
