Jimmy Page blames Robert Plant for not changing the words to when the levy breaks, Dan Johnson the lawyer for Jake Holmes newly filed suit, Rich tells the story of Jimmy buying a Jake Holmes album and playing it fro Robert, They compare examples Black water side 1966, Babe Im gonna leave you Joan Baez 1963 (Ann Breeden) Since I've been loving you by Moby Grape 1968, Moby Dick or Watch your step Bobby Parker1961, I cant quit you babe 1956 Otis Rush,Heard it on the X Recorded on December 19, 2010
Page blamed Plant for not changing the lyrics to Whole Lotta Love. Memphis Minnie is credited for 'Levee' on LZ IV. Willie Dixon is credted form 'I can't quit you babe', as can be seen on Led Zeppelin I. SIBLY has only the first line of the Moby Grape song, the rest is totally different. And eh, did Bobby Parker teach Bonzo how to play the drums on 'Moby Dick'? I think not. lol

Bert Jansch didn't write Black Water Side, it's a traditional song (so Page should have listed it as trad. arr. by Page). Joan Baez didn't credit Anne Bredon on the first published album (a live album), because she thought it was a tradional song. She had learned the song from someone called Janet Smith, who had learned it from Anne Bredon. Only later the Baez album credited to Anne Bredon. Bredon never released the song. Page wrote the music, it's totally different from the Baez version.

@mjlalopersempre I'm confused dude, the first comment you made seemed to be all about bashing Zep, and the reply to my comment seemed to be supporting them... Where do you stand exactly? lol.

@Iwishiwerethird it gets involved by itself man. There is a reason why Elvis Presley, who didn't write or compose a single song in his life time, is labeled the "King of Rock&Roll",while true pioneers of the genre like Chuck Berry and Little Richard are hardly ever mentioned. There are double standards in the music industry, same as in real life. Those two dudes are abviously tring to deplete what Led did.Would they do the same if it was a pop or black artist? Ι will go with the "no"answer.

Most of these examples are from the first few Zeppelin albums, which were recorded very close together. Nobody ever accused them of stealing 'Fool in the Rain' or 'Kashmir' from their later days, so it's not like the band were completely unoriginal. I think those early songwriting 'credits' were to protect the arrangement rather than claim ownership; I'd also point the blame for that at Jimmy Grant.

80% of Stevie Ray Vaughan's blues licks come directly from Albert King. I listen to Bluesville channel on XM Radio and 90% of the lead guitar work are variations on the exact same blues licks in all the songs. I Can't Quit You Baby is not unique for Otis Rush or Led Zeppelin... especially if they ARE doing a cover of blues. Blues music has a certain sound to it based on those same blues licks which is what makes it a genre of music. No one owns the licks.
