Florida officials are considering a ban on Burmese pythons after a pet snake killed a 2-year-old girl last month. The director of the state's fish and wildlife commission told Gov. Charlie Crist that her agency is studying that option. (Aug. 5)
@danyramoon I feel very sorry for the child who died but many, many more children, get killed or injured by dogs and horses. Cats and nonnative plants cause much more damage to the environment. I would hope that the public could put themselves in our place and understand that to some people reptile pets are an important part of their lives and we would just ask that we be given the same consideration as other pet owners. I am ok with regulations as long as they make sense.
@pythons4ages you snake people know nothing on laws, life and society. it aint about not knowing who the owner is its the dangers of a snake being out of its habbitat and put into ours
@amalt37 be reasonable man in saying something like that even a fucking kid can tell the difference in danger but the fact is this is getting out of hand, now a death has occured and something must be done about it, if you can bring in any snake or even animal to your country why is it so hard for the mexican population to get visa to live in the US because precautions are in place
@ajmizur Sometimes regulations are needed but overall be very careful about what you let the government take away from us. Remember the government gets paid to make & enforce these laws, the money comes from us taxpayers and sometimes the gov't is more concerned with getting a paycheck than serving a real need. Horses can kick you, birds and turtles can give you salmonella, even trees can fall on you. How far do you want the gov't to go in protecting you?
@pythons4ages Yeah, register & chipping is all fine & dandy for those still in the homes of the owners that were grandfathered in, but no new pythons on the dangerous species list can be purchased.
However, you've yet to address the situation concerning those 150,000 pythons still slithering loose in the florida wilds. Give me a viable alternative to 'catch & kill' and I'll be all for it. Until then, it's 'hack & skin' time for every one of them I find when I head to the 'glades this winter.
Theres no reason to have dangerous pets. Period. Its a danger to your community. I gots no problem with snakes in my yard, I like em; because they eat rodents, but Snakes and Dogs that can harm the Community, theres no need for that. I cant walk down my street because of Pitbulls. You think Im gonna trust the owners ?
see now there is a better way than the catch and kill plan snakes that get over 10 feet in captivity should be chipped and register to the owner cause the owner should be responssible for there pets but only in states when the snake can survive in the climate pythons in general dont need to be targeted there was a shot of a boa there too so these political people that dont know shit about snakes should not be envolved in making the laws for restrictions on the snakes
