I wanted to make a debris hut for use this winter when we have a few feet of snow at this location. Phase 1 is this video a debris lean to really at this point, but enough. I wanted to sleep in it with just my street clothes and use the space blanket from the Survival Kit. It worked very well and I was quite warm.

  • @mpwasz

What do you think people like Dave,Cody, Les and Bear are doing all do the same think just putting there own spin on it

They all had to learn how to survive build shelters from someone

Your words suggest you are nothing more than a troll

But if you can do Better put up a video and show us

    Just my 2 cent

  • @winnipegdiver There isn't much that is new and unique out there, this stuff has all been done for thousands of years. What I want to show, is for everyone to try something, it's each persons experience that really matter, each person has to save themselves. I've built lots of different shelters, this is one I video'd. I don't think it's some contest to out do someone else. It's just fun to mess around and try different things. And I do stay in mine as well thats part of it too, thanks!!

  • I have a question!!! I am planning on building a debris shelter (I have experience), in the greenspace behind my yard. It is ALL wetlands, and a lot of it is green, except for the long dried out grasses. Should I only use the dried grass for my hut? Thats pretty much all the dry debris, and there is a small quantity of leaves. I'm wondering if it will still keep me warm...Plus, the ground will be moist, obiously, becase it's wetlands...

    Thanks alot,

    Soccercat1

  • @soccercat1 If its very wet you probably want to elevate your sleeping platform. Yes you can use dry grass. Green grass would rot when piled on the roof. You want the roof to be pretty thick, depending on climate in your area, up to 4 feet thick. If the grass is long you can make a lattice work frame on your hut and weave the grass in, starting at the bottom. Then layer after layer over that. About 30 years ago I made on in my garden after harvest with willow frame and corn leaves for roof..

  • nice one, more of a debris lean-to tho !

  • @gavtatu That was the first phase, I added a lot more to the front a month later, to accommodate several people. Still up a year later. Thanks for watching

  • @soccercat1 I make a living as a critic of these vids, the best series out there (in that they are thorough, easy to understand, and emcompass most of the concepts) would be from the "primitiveskills" channel. The host is a little flabby, but you can tell he is talking from direct experience. The channel is affiliated with a primitive skills and survival school out of Maine.

  • Hey if you need a survival knife a good (and not pricy for some of the products' good quality) go to budk.com they have some good knives there. I'm going to order the One Shot One kill SOA apparently it very good and really cheap.

  • Quit doing what you learned from other people. Come up with something new , innovative. Dumb copy cats.

  • Hey man thanks for watching and thanks for the comments!! Yeah that hut never did get done before winter, it was added on to since this video. But still it's nice and has been a blast to have. Yes I'm in scouts. We had the scouts snowshoe in to the debris hut, that was cool. Keep watching.
