Nah, both that episode and this game were homages to The Poseidon Adventure, and/or it's movie adaption.

Basically if Titanic was ever an arcade game, this would be the equivalent.
I almost think though in the Pokemon show they paid homage to this game when their ship sank in that episode. Storm hit, ship fell upside down, they had to reach the "top" (bottom) of the ship to escape.
