The world record for One Handed solving is faster these days :) still a good job with a new cube (they all had to go with a new stiff cube) back then (1982)

Yeah, it's a good thing the WCA allows people to use their own cubes.

The competetors weren't allowed to use their own cubes. This slowed down their times immensely as the cubes supplied by the competition were harder to turn.

Yep, that's Minh Thai with his world record 22.95 seconds solve during the championship at Budapest in 1982.
