@MatthewADusenberry Thank you for that very interesting bit of technical information. I re-read my original comment and laughed at myself. I must have been in a bad mood that day. Your commentary is very much appreciated. I also forgot to add in my original comment that I love Mirko & Alessia. They are exceptional and it's hard to say they're dancing, it seems more like floating. They are beautiful to watch.

@sagisli There's no forcing. It's mechanically advantageous. The lady's head acts as a big weight on the outside of turns, allowing for much better movement and rotation as a pair.
As to the back bend, there is none. There is not a single moment where her back isn't completely straight. What you see is the lady stretching from the shoulder blades, upwards and out. She's just very flexible.

It's bad enough that women have to dance in heels but why are they forced into such unnatural neck posture? I really think it's distracting to the dance when it's overdone. A slight tilt is nice but I hate the whole back bend thing. I know it's a must in professional ballroom but it's sadistic in my opinion and very subservient. Those swooning days are over.
