Ted's and Totem Pole! Great hang outs indeed. So was Vet's Drive-in on Van Dyke, Big Boys across from City Airport and on 8 Mile Rd. Another great drag strip!
Remember CKLW Radio and Tommy Shannon spinning records in the evening? Cars with reverbs, and a few with RCA record players mounted under the dash!
Some cars were "raked" and others had raised shackles in the rear. Some had "lake pipes" or "dumps" splitting off of the headers, and the poor man had "thrush mufflers" or "glass packs"!
I was mostly asleep the other night and all of a sudden the name Lee Alan, "The Horn" flashed into my brain! I couldn't wait to get up so I could Google him. Sure enough, here he is. I wondered if he was still around. Great to hear that he is. Those were magical years when I grew up in the early '60s listening to him on WXYZ. Rock on Lee!
That's my great-uncle, ahahaha.

My sisters worked at the Totem Pole. It was a happening place. Duggans has the best of that menu along with 5x5's from Teds.
No mention of Set Me Free?
All I can remember is
So when you all alone,
if you dig the fine tone
You just wait and see
This horn's gonna set you free

Lee Alan, would sign off every night on WXYZ radio, with Frank Sinatra, singing "I Can't Get Started With You."

I also remember Joel Sebastian's "Express Mess," on WXYZ radio. Wish there was an update on Joel, too!
