Benazir Bhutto is dead. Her assassination and the Musharraf government's reaction to it is transforming the political landscape of a nuclear-armed nation in a volatile region.
The New America Foundation/American Strategy Program invites you to attend a discussion with leading experts who will examine the implications of recent events and U.S. policy towards the region. New America President and New Yorker staff writer Steve Coll and Schwartz Senior Fellow Peter Bergen, both recently back from Pakistan in the past week, will open the discussion followed by comments from Senior Fellow Flynt Leverett, former senior director for Middle East Affairs at the National Security Council. The event and Q&A will be moderated by Steven Clemons, director of the American Strategy Program at New America.

Pakistan, regrettably, was formed on ideolgy that has frequently been debated as being fundamentally flawed- a Muslim 'haven'to counter an essentially Hindu yet secular India. In its birth it spoused bigotry, which the world tolerated. Now we pay the the price for having been mute spectators.
