  • Look at the color of her skin...she came on the scene too early for the operatic powers that were to start acting like rational human beings instead of bigots. I hear that she can still spin those beautiful phrases, though...

  • What a wonderful voice. I read where Sir Rudolf Bing gave most all of the great coloratura roles to Roberta Peters in the 1950s while Dobbs was singing at the Met. What a pity; they both could have equally shared them.

Bing, with titles meaning nothing since ultimate power destroys, also ignored VIRGINIA ZEANI, a first-rate artist. His choice of singers eventually lead to the decline of the Art of Singing. The only reason KIRSTEN FLAGSTAD was discovered during his era, was due to the suggestion of Mr Thompson who heard her in Norway.

  • Dobbs contributed a great deal to the success of Black female singers who followed her at the MET. She sang successfully there and while Anderson opened the doors in 56 it was Dobbs who had a major international career that included recordings radio broadcast and television, and proved that a Black Diva could and would be accepted. Her artistry, skill and place in history can't be denied or ignored. She was one of the bestcoloraturas ever.

  • BEAUTIFUL. BING CAN KISS HER BUTT.

  • @benderpm Unfortunately, some singers are always favoured by the management. don't forget that Beverley Sills was also a contemporary but greatly ignored by the MET. Sometimes a face does not fit in, rediculous but true, it still happens today

  • What a beautiful voice, beautiful interpretation.

  • @racheleleeba Because of her skin color.

  • @GylchrisSprauve You are painfully correct and there were many others not offered the opportunity; however, others of lighter hue were given the opportunity on a silver platter whether they deserved it or not.

  • She has one of the freshest voices I have ever heard. I only wish she could have had the same star power as all the rest of the divas of her time. Considering that she did most things first, other greats like Price get all of the praise. Price is great, but read up on Dobbs, a true pioneer. Brava, Soprani!

  • Listen to Moffo in her prime!!!!
