Here is another song from the book "My Gallery".
"Fire!" is the name I gave to a painting by my great uncle. It depicts a horseman galloping away from a forest fire, and seemed like a wonderful inspiration for a furious sounding piece.
I hope students will give this piece more interesting dynamics than I gave it in my performance -- the candles were fun, but made me dizzy & a little blind!
For this piece I used my pedal harp, and at the very end could not resist adding a lower octave G. Please feel free to add or subtract octaves to suit your harp when playing my pieces and arrangements. Please visit harprose.com
"My Gallery" is available through Melody's Traditional Music at folkharp.com
Thank you for listening!

  • hi kathy :) i am a harp student at blake high school and i was given this piece last thursday for a concert i have to play in october.. i was wondering if you could give me anytips on playing the harp because i only have limited access to my harp (2 hours a day mon-fri) and i would like to get a whole lot beter

  • @barbie9450

I am impressed that you are so dedicated to learn! I would definitely memorize the chords in "block" style, and practice them that way first, and everytime you practice, play the piece through in "block" before playing it as written. In case you don't know, that means taking all the notes in each handful and playing them at the same time like a straight chord. If you have not studied theory, have your teacher help you name each chord. It really helps. Enjoy your concert!

  • What a fabulous piece! So dramatic. I love all the pieces you have posted and I thank Mary Radspinner for putting up the link so I could learn about them.

  • @harpdivack

Thank you, I hope you are enjoying your harp. I thank Mary Radspinner for many things as well :)

  • Here is our answer when we want a dramatic piece like 'Rouet" but don't want to drag the pedal harp out! Well done!

  • @BeautifulHarpMusic

Thank you, yes, there are many times I don't want to haul that big instrument around, and sometimes I just like the feel of the lever harp. I am glad you enjoy the piece.

  • @kathyrncater thank you !!

  • @blancorife You inspire me! I am so excited for your new adventure. I hope you will love the music you make with your harp. Blessings, Kathryn

  • Kathy: I bought a 34 s.lever harp recently, knowing absolutely nothing. I am 75 yrs, & some fingers don't bend. Love the sound of the harp. Heard you on a video just now and fell in love with the sound of the harp all over again. You are absolutely an inspirationfor me to do my best. You are lovely. Glora

  • I am so glad you enjoy it. I will keep adding more as I can get them done. Mary Radspinner is amazing.

  • "My Gallery" is lever harp friendly. "Fire" has a couple tricky places, but if you memorize them you will find it easier, so you won't have to shift your focus between the page & hand placement. Hand placement is the big deal with this piece. I hope you enjoy playing it!
