This hummingbird flew into a window and was practically dead; gasping for air with blood coming out of her mouth. It looked like she had a broken neck and could not move her legs or chest.
I kept her for two weeks and took care of her while she healed. A couple of days after this video she flew away back into the wild. Hope she makes it to her migration destination in Mexico!!

  • I found a hummingbird today on my way back from school. I think its wing is injured. I tried calling around looking for some rehabilitation facilities but they were all closed for the day because it was after five and its a friday. Any tips you can give me? I gave it some sugar water and took it outside to the plant I found it by. It fed on some of the nectar. I am not sure how often I should be feeding it though. It is already dark out.

  • @TheDebster05 Hi, I'm so sorry I did not see your post; I never go on here! Did the hummingbird make it? Mine flew out of the sunroof of my car one day while at a convenience store. I fed her honey and water, natural lemonade with sugar, and water with sugar out of a plastic syringe. I "winged" it! Had no idea what I was doing, but couldn't just leave her on my sidewalk to die. She really came to like me, loved to sit in my hand for hours! Very interesting and rewarding experience.

  • I wonder if it made it i hope

  • @uaking21 Yeah, I hope she had enough strength to make the migration to Mexico. We did our best to prepare her!!

  • You have a kind heart to take care of the little humming bird. :)

  • I see the same one each year in Maryland. I recroded it feeding up close. :-) it was pretty

  • @kingbookeraj Yes the hummingbird did make it. I found a rescue shelter for small birds located only about a half hour away. A couple days after leaving the bird with the lady of the shelter, she wrote back saying it was doing much better and would be released in about two weeks. You are correct in saying it was a rewarding experience, because I was able to see it drink directly from the nectar source as I lifted it up some flowers near the area I found it.
