  • Of course 4th Edition is an attept to make money, Wizards (and more importantly Hasbro0 are companies, the aim of companies is to make money. If 4th Edition would not make them money they would not be doing it.

Tht said, it seems like it tidies up some of the issues I had with 3.5 and if the changes are akin to those made in Star Wars Saga I am hopeful.

    A great show once again.

  • I've not roleplayed in over a decade but watching Game Geeks has inspired ma to take the hobby up again. I must say thank you, though my wallet will soon start hating you. :)

Oh and by the sounds of it 4th edition sounds appalling, give me the d&d rules cyclopedia any day.

  • I love how he was exactly right about the facts on D&D fans about 4th edition...

  • Role playing pen and paper games are a dying thing in my country. Thanks to the popularity of Magic the gathering and Wow (plus other MMORPGs) and the lack of fantasy and sci-fi narrative in popular culture. Here we find each year there´s more difficult to sell RPG products like D&D (since the mid 90s, 4 specialized gaming shops get out of business in my town) and the community has decreased so much is almost impossible to do a Gen Con like event here.

  • i just played the 2nd edition i think, with 3 core books MM DM's guide and Players handbook. + Libris mortis, hordes of the abyss, eberron capain setting and oriental adventures. but somtime i just make it up as i go along when running.

  • for the love of ...zeus...we need this on a site to see the whole lecture in its entirety.

    keep it comming.

  • Did you ever play OD&D or B/E D&D? They were much less mechanically oriented than what has come since AD&D. I thought OD&D wasn't complete so my favorite has been B/E for quite some time.

I'm not going to play the "Exalted is for Real Roleplayers" game, reminds me too much of 1992-95 V:tM wars. Suffice to say that anyone with the attitude of "This game is REAL roleplaying! That one isn't!" is usually in the wrong. That's become the hallmark of a troll on sites like RPGnet.

  • Yeah, but I think that his point was that D&D is going more and more into the "tabletop strategy game" genre.

The type of game that doesn't consider so much what your character IS rather than what he can tactically DO on the battlefield.

Exalted is certainly very power-gamer oriented, but it also leaves much room for pure role-playing. A direction that D&D now seems to be abandoning completely.

Personally D&D has NEVER been for me,as a fantasy RPG I prefer the Warhammer Roleplaying game.

  • I hate D&D with all my heart and soul (well, I have a soft spot for B/E D&D), but I admit that it is undeniably the money maker of the industry.

What I laughed at was the Exalted fan claiming that D&D was "just a combat simulator". What I've seen of Exalted has made me feel it was everything I hated about D&D "turned up to 11". Big swords, big epic battles, and chainmail bikini "Perfect Defense".

  • well I will buy d&d 4e.I love d&d in general
