What an explosion of colors!
I think the term is really "high four" when you're dealing with our four-toed parrot friends. ;)
From a monochrome (grey parrot) owner...

You are so lucky to be able to afford a hyacinth!!! I have always wanted one, but they are way out of my price range. He is very beautiful. Ruby seems to enjoy his company. The combination of all those colors is absolutely stunning!! If you read this, what part of the Carolina's are you from? I am from SC myself. Enjoy the birds!!

Ruby is so cute, and Friday so amusing. <3 Aww, they don't need to say anything to be super entertaining.

Beautiful birds! Just curious...what kind of camera are you using?

@shaunnagunderson that is common nonsense, it is a Macadamia nut that you are thinking and those are from East Australia and Macaws are from South America, some smart idiot came up with it to rip off people who have money and it caught on ;-) Any nuts are great for them...

@Meridianbengals Have you ever had a Macaw get a blood feather that needs to be pulled? I'm guessing it needs to be pulled. It's still 1/3 in the sheath and fresh blood in the sheath (not dried out). But it hangs off to the side unlike the others. She has never had one look like this :( I saw a report on how to pull a feather and I do alot of things with my birds but I don't think this is something I will just get in, and make it happen.
I want to know how so many people seem to be able to afford to feed the Hyacynth?? Someone told me just the nuts alone are about $250.00/month. Is that right?

@shaunnagunderson Hy's eat mostly palm nuts in the wild, but those can be tough to source for captive birds. There are a few suppliers now, but you can't just run down to your local pet supply store or supermarket to buy them. Instead of palm nuts you can feed macadamia's. Get the ones in the shell that haven't been processed, baked or seasoned. Expensive, yes, but not $250 a month. To feed both macaws runs about $125 a month, because they get only fresh fruit, veggies and nuts, no pellets.

We are looking into getting a scarlet and a hyacinth to join our family. What are the differences in personality in your birds. Since it's such a huge investment and I don't want to make a bad choice for us or the birds ,,any advice?

@strsk8r The short answer to that is.....Scarlet's seems to be more one person birds, favoring one family member and not liking anyone else that much(at least with ours). Hy's seem to be friendly with everyone. Ours likes anyone that will pay attention to him.
