@calaverasgrande I wouldn't say Rollins was a jock. He may have looked like one, but he was the kind of guy who would have gotten his ass kicked by other jocks in high school. As for his statements about hardcore dying in 1984, there was some truth to it. Black Flag album sales were going down. A lot of the known bands were breaking up at the time, and if you look at who Black Flag was opening for by 1986, they were opening for heavy metal acts. It just wasn't the same as it was in 1980 or 1981.

@JonErich I've seen Black Flag pre Rollins and post Rollins. Regardless of what direction the band went in, Rollins is a jock. Dig up some videos of Black Flag pre Rollins. There is no flexing going on or punching people out. I'm also sick of Rollins showing up on every "hardcore" documentary of the last ten years and pronouncing the hardcore scene was "over" after 1984. Funny I distinctly recall Black Flag and later the Rollins band continuing to tour and sell merch after it was "over".

@calaverasgrande The Rollins era Black Flag songs were written mostly by Greg Ginn. He also wrote the pre-Rolins era songs. It was Ginn's vision, not his. The more creative, experimental direction the band went through after Rollins joined would have happened even if he'd not joined. Also, was had his own band SOA. He went to the shows, was part of the hardcore scene, lived like a punk rocker for years. He has more punk rock claims than any band today who calls themselves "punk".
