(C.C. is of course the lovely Chris Colleen)
RAMBLING GIRL
Took my C.C. to a restaurant
I said C.C., can we tie that knot
She kept right on buttering her bread
And this is what she said
Can't cross the ocean in a water pail
Can't go to sleep on a bed of nails
Can't cut sugar cane with a string of pearls
Can't hold a rambling girl
I said, C.C., I'll work real hard
We'll have five kids out in the yard
Buy us a house with a white picket gate
She said let me set you straight
Can't float a train, cuz a train don't float
Can't pay a ticket with a post it note
Can't slow the spin of this big, old world
Can't hold a rambling girl
I looked down at the catsup on my plate
She looked at me like her heart would break
Walked to the car with my C.C.
Got in and handed her the keys
I said -
Can't dig a ditch with a saxophone
Can't thumb a ride down a dead end road
Can't change a lion into a squirrel
I love that rambling girl
I can't leave my rambling girl
