Sacred Harp patriarch Elmer A. Enochs (1888-1994!) leads "Struggle On" (page 400, by J.P. Rees, 1859) at Dumas Chapel, Webster County, Mississippi, in 1970; from "They Sing of a Heaven," a 1972 film by Jerry Stimpfle of the University of Mississippi. Raw footage would be nice, as the voiceovers are intrusive, but this is one of very few videos of black Sacred Harp singers in Mississippi.

  • Thanks for the year info. 1970 makes sense, looking at the clothing and the quality of the film. Thanks for posting this!

  • man, what happened to church today?

  • I really enjoyed this. I could do without the explanation of the shapes, but could have listened to that second speaker a bit more. What he said about the emotional and spiritual effects of the songs rings true for me too.
