CB750F Cafe Racer Raw

Almost finished. Still running very raw. Engine needs to be tuned, still have to make a baffle, rearset, few final touches.

sounds like you might have a lean misfire or something. the occasional crackling sound?

Then I adjusted the valve clearance again and shimmed the custom gear shifter so it wouldn't be so rigid any more.

Had loads of fun for about 40 miles and she started to run rougher (again)... Gear shifter became more rigid (again) and after about 55 miles the shifter was stuck... Couldn't shift up or down anymore. Clutch was fine. Stuck in 4th gear... Still had to drive home from work 15 miles. I can tell you that is loads of fun stuck in 4th gear, in busy traffic...

Made it home safe and immediately drained the oil while it was still warm (only 200 miles old...). I'm suspecting I have a grease problem. I think something is clogging the oil channel to the cam leaving the cam digging in the cam-bed. Result: larger valve clearance: rough engine, bad performance.

Also think the gearbox is not receiving enough oil, result: stuck...

@localdu The previous owner used loads of liquid gasket in the engine. I thoroughly cleaned all the channels over and over but I'm thinking one little piece survived and is now clogging the channel. Have to clean up the garage and then remove the engine for inspection...

@localdu In fact it is (was) running a bit rich but the leads to the sparkplugs (cil. 1&2) were in bad shape. I replaced the leads+coils and the bike ran loads better. There is a short movie from a colortune in cil 4 and 1 indicating the problem on my account.

Fun didn't last long... After about 40 miles the performance went down a bit and the engine didn't run very smooth anymore. Also the gear shifter became rigid.
