To nbarry45 The authorities didn't like the play and neither did Mendelssohn. But M gave it a first-rate overture notwithstanding. Hallmark of a true craftsman!

Beecham was always marvellous in Mendelsohn. This was recorded at Abbey Road Studios on 16 March 1951, and was issued as a 78 and as this EP by Columbia. But the rights to the recording belonged to CBS, and then passed to Sony: so it has also appeared on Phillips and Fontana LPs and Sony CDs, most recently on SMK87965.

I think this is really fun to play and it has good sound, great composer too! Mendelssohn is awesome. A good five star rating for me :D

A fine performance; the recording has remarkably good audio. Thank you for posting! Mendelssohn is a genius!
...aaand we have to play THIS in a Secondary School Orchestra? Really?? It seems our music teacher has finally overstepped the line between 'rather ambitious' to 'completely barking'. Ah well... speaking as a second violin, here goes nothing! :S Good piece of music tho :)
