In 1955 Gisele MacKenzie made history by becoming the first cast member in the history of "Your Hit Parade" to get to sing her own big hit song on the show. Gisele's hit was the title song from the television drama in which she starred called "Hard to Get." It was Gisele's first recording after leaving Capitol records for RCA and its family of labels. Here Gisele reprises the song on "The Gisele MacKenzie Show" (NBC-TV, January 11, 1958) during a salute to her old series "Your Hit Parade." Gisele's co-stars on Hit Parade, Russell Arms & Snooky Lanson, were her guests. You also get to enjoy the opening of Gisele's show, a public service announcement by Miss MacK, and her closing theme.
Axel Stordahl conducts the orchestra.

  • I don't think Gisele had become a US citizen yet at this date, though she did later in the same year.

  • I believe Gisele got a dual citizenship in the US and Canada in 1955. I have a picture of her signing the papers at the same time singer Carmel Quinn did! As I recall it was from a 1955 clipping. Gisele felt strong bonds with her native Canada and her adopted US.

  • I loved her singing so much!

  • I was entranced by her voice when I first heard her in '52 when I was a 21-yr-old busboy at Sahati's Stateline Country Club at So. Lake Tahoe. She was just off a flight to Reno from wherever, and arrived at the club around 4:00PM, obviously very tired. She immediately spent about an hour with the house band to be sure she'd have it right for the 2 shows that night.. She always disappeared between shows to practice in her room. Unforgettable!

  • Thats what is called singing. Lovely voice.. I bought some of her records here in the UK around 1953-- 'Til I Waltz Again With You', 'Water Wont Quench the Fire Of Love' (with Helen O'Connell), 'Seven Lonely Days' etc. Have them on cd now. Lovely memories.
