JamesR1969 - I agree with you on all counts. Especially, that the staffer probably believed he was real. And, that IS scary! It is possible that so many wacko calls come into her office, like this, that "Terrence's" call wasn't unusual. Scary.
You've missed the bigger picture here. "Terrence," as you put it, is merely illustrating how as this ridiculously charged debate has descended into uninformed, populist rage, Republican leaders have done nothing to try and calm it. Akin, in fact, endorses it with his "joke." There are plenty of Terrence's out there looking for a reason to saddle up. The fact that the staffer didn't hang up, indicates that she believed he was real, and THAT is the scariest thing. She recognized his type.
Yea, this is very funny - Being from Missouri, I loved the over the top yahoo. However, to be fair, I thought the staff person handled it very well. Obviously Mr. Akin is not inciting people to lynch. His choice of words may have made him an easy target for 24 hr news cycle, but he's no KKK supporter. In spite of "Terrence's" bait, she never wavered. She was always polite, yet firm - not condoning "Terrence's" inferences. 3 cheers for a staff person trying to do her job, professionally.
Oh Lordy, I think my sides need a health care plan now, because they were split from laughter! If this is a real call and that's his real assistant. She's a moron. You can tell when she starts reading from the script. She's stuttering as she reads. I wish you had pointed out they were laughing in that clip at the idea.
@bigriver3 And if Terrence is really from Joplin, I just have to say he did an awesome job portraying the stereotype of someone from the Ozarks.
